SPIDER-MAN to be Rebooted Again with SINISTER SIX? VENOM Canceled? What?!

Yesterday a rumor broke that Marvel and Sony Pictures were discussing the possibility of bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe. It looks like there's even more to it than that. Badass Digest received some additional intel regarding the state of Spider-Man at the studio. Judging by this recent info, it seems like the studio isn't sure what in the hell to do with the character. The site offers up three new bits of information on top of the whole Marvel rumor.

First up, there has been talk that studio is looking to reboot Spider-Man with the Sinister Six movie being developed by Drew Goddard.

"Sony is going to soft reboot Spider-Man with The Sinister Six, having a new actor playing a Spidey who works with the villains The Dirty Dozen style to take down a larger threat."

Whoa! That's a pretty big deal. Spider-Man is going to be the most rebooted superhero in history. That could be kind of cool movie, but it doesn't seem like that would fit in with where they were taking the story in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The site then goes on to say that Spider-Man could be hanging up his Spidey suit for a few years.

"Sony is going to put Spider-Man on the shelf for four or five years and see if they can develop any of the side characters into their own franchises."

What's interesting about that is Spider-Man is the most interesting character in the Spider-Man universe. I can't help but think the side characters aren't really going to hit with audiences… unless that side character is Venom, but guess what?

"I've also heard that Venom is functionally dead again."

Ugh. These are all rumors at the moment, but if they are true, it's insane. If the studio doesn't don't know what to do with this character, they might as well let Marvel use him in their own universe. I think word of all this madness at Sony got back to Marvel and that's when they jumped in to take advantage of the situation and see if they could make a deal.

If Marvel does actually bring Spider-Man back into their fold I hope that they bring Andrew Garfield along for the ride. I really think he makes a great Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
