SPIDER-NOIR’s Nightmare-Fueled ‘Spider Soldier’ BTS Video Reveals One Hell of a Creepy Creature

Fans diving into Spider-Noir have already seen plenty of eerie imagery from the dark, pulpy world of the series, but a newly released behind-the-scenes video is shining a spotlight on one of the show's most unsettling creations.

If giant spider-human hybrids happen to be your thing, you're in for a treat. If not, well... prepare for some nightmare fuel.

Special makeup effects artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe recently shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram that reveals the creation of the show's terrifying "Spider Soldier."

The footage walks viewers through the extensive prosthetic and makeup work required to transform a performer into the grotesque creature, and the result is every bit as disturbing as you'd expect.

The practical effects work is incredibly detailed, turning the actor into a horrifying fusion of man and spider that looks like it crawled straight out of a twisted pulp horror comic.

In an era where digital effects often dominate creature design, it's refreshing to see such an elaborate practical creation brought to life with old-school craftsmanship.

Along with sharing the footage, Tunnicliffe made sure to credit the talented team responsible for the creature's creation. He praised special effects designer Vincent Van Dyke, whose work served as the foundation for the Spider Soldier.

The test footage also featured contributions from makeup artist Ken Niederbaumer, hairstylist Sasha Camacho, and dental effects artist Jason James.

In his post, Tunnicliffe wrote: "@vincentvandykefx incredible ‘spider soldier’ creation for the excellent SPIDER NOIR @spidernoirprime – this taken during the first test."

He followed that up by teasing fans with more looks at the creature design still to come, saying: "I’m sure Vincent will be posting numerous pics, detailing the process and all the talented crew involved, but for now here’s a little taster.

“NOW, get over to Amazon Prime and start watching and see how this (and so many other great practical mufx) play into the shadowy world of Nic Cage’s Ben Riley / The Spider."

This is the kind of creature that taps into primal fears, combining recognizable human features with something completely unnatural and unsettling.
