SPIDER-VERSE Star Shameik Moore Says Film Was "Robbed" After Oscar Loss, But Then Asked For Forgiveness
Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore saw himself getting in some hot water with his reaction to Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse losing Best Animated Film to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron at the Oscars.
The actor posted one word on X, “Robbed.” As you might imagine, fans were quick to criticize Moore, who plays Miles Morales in the animated franchise, pointing out to him that Miyazaki is a master of animation who directed a superior film.
When fans started lashing out against him, Moore posted a couple of follow-up responses, one calling himself a “sore loser” and another asking for forgiveness. He said:
“Respect to the winner. It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, ‘Spider-Verse’ has impacted A LOT of lives. We may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on, and BEYOND….. yea get ready.”
One fan pointed out the classy response that Spider-Verse co-writer and producer Chris Miller had to the film’s Oscar loss, in which he said: “Well, if you’re gonna lose, might as well lose to the GOAT.” Moore responded to that by saying:
“Your right, honestly the whole ‘Spider-Verse’ team are such good sports. Very professional and I’m excited to see what comes of this. I’m young, and a fighter, so forgive my nature. Congrats to the winners.”
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse actually won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019, they don’t have to win them all, and The Boy and the Heron definitely deserved the win. That being said, it’s only human to be disappointed when you lose! It’s ok to feel bummed out! I get it, I lose all the time! There’s no reason to attack someone who’s feeling some disappointment after they lose.
Miyazaki has now won two Academy Awards for animated feature, and his first Oscar came for Spirited Away.
