Spider-Woman and Silk Confirmed For The SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Spinoff Film

Not only are we getting a sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, we’re also getting a spinoff film that will focus on the female characters.

When the project was first announced, we assumed that Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl and Silk would be a part of the story. Well, today two of those characters have been confirmed.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, producer Amy Pascal confirmed that Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman and Cindy Moon's Silk will be officially making their way to the big screen in this animated spin-off movie. This is on top of the live-action Silk movie that is in development.

Lauren Montgomery, who has also worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix’s Voltron, is currently in talks to direct the all-female spinoff movie that is said to “gather the female heroes in the Spider-Man universe of characters in one adventure.” Bek Smith, who wrote episodes of the CBS show Zoo, will write the script.

It’ll be interesting to see what other characters will pop up in the movie. These three characters are the team-up that makes the most sense, though, because they have teamed up in the comics on several occasions. They also all have very different and fun personalities that will be fun to play off of each other.

If you want to know a little more about these characters, Cindy Moon a.k.a. Silk was actually the second person to be bitten by the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker. She was hidden for years by Ezekiel from Morlun, and was found by Spider-Man.

As for Jessica Drew a.k.a. Spider-Woman, she was genetically enhanced and given super-powers by the criminal organization HYDRA, for whom she became an assassin as Spider-Woman. She later reformed and became a SHIELD agent and was also once a member of the Avengers and an Agent of SWORD.

I’m really excited to see the animated Spider-Verse franchise grow and expand. There’s so much awesomeness to play with in this crazy cool multiverse!
