Spike Jonze's Doc BEASTIE BOYS STORY Will Hit IMAX Theatres Before Landing at Apple TV+
Spike Jonze, director of many music videos, as well as the films Where the Wild Things Are and Her, is making the upcoming documentary, Beastie Boys Story. The film will follow the life and music of the members of Beastie Boys, Michael Diamond (Mike D), Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), and the late Adam Yauch (MCA).
The announcement comes around the 26th anniversary of the release of Beastie Boys’ fourth album Ill Communication. Jonze directed the music video for the album’s hit “Sabotage.”
According to Deadline, the film is billed as “a live documentary experience that will focus on the history and legacy of the group and its intimate, personal story. The project grew out of Diamond and Horowitz’s collaboration on Beastie Boys Book, published in October 2018.”
Apple has purchased the film and is giving it an exclusive IMAX limited release beginning on April 3, 2020, before it hits Apple TV+ on April 24, 2020.
