Spock Will Be Played By Ethan Peck in STAR TREK: DISCOVERY
In case you've all been wondering who will be taking on the role of the iconic character Spock in Star Trek: Discovery, wonder no longer. Spock will make his big debut in the series in Season 2 and he will be played by Ethan Peck.
In case that name doesn't ring a bell, he's appeared in films such as 10 Things I Hate About You, In Time, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. He's not the biggest or most popular actor, but the producers of the series seemed to love what he brought to the character. Discovery executive producer Alex Kurtzman had this to say about the actor:
"Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek. The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning.
"Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family."
I'm sure that Peck will be great in the role. As far as how this younger version of Spock will be handled in the series, Kurtzman previously talked about it saying:
"This is not entirely the Spock who has been formed enough to be the Spock that we know from TOS. There's a lot of story about who Spock was before he becomes the Spock that is the yin-yang to Kirk. What I'm so excited about is that we have an opportunity to present a version of Spock that's both totally consistent with the Spock everyone knows but very, very different. And it's all gonna tie to how we sink up with canon."
Spock is Michael Burnham's brother in the series and at the end of Season 1, Burnham and the crew of the Discovery answered the distress call of a fellow Federation ship that turned out to be the Enterprise. That is how Spock is going to be introduced into the series.
