DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Character Makes Long-Awaited Debut

I said it in the title, so I’m assuming if you’re here, you have seen the movie, or you just don’t care about spoilers, but if you’re here by mistake, here’s another warning that the rest of the article is full of spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

With that out of the way, we can now talk about those epic cameos from the movie that made it such a fun movie-going experience.

In the film, Deadpool and Wolverine were banished to The Void, where they came up against Cassandra Nova, then ran into Jennifer Garner's Elektra and Wesley Snipes's Blade, who we haven’t seen in a long time, but we do remember from their previous Marvel roles.

Then in walked in Channing Tatum's Gambit! This was the shocker, as the role has eluded him for over a decade, but man, it was so much fun to finally see him as the Ragin’ Cajun, Remy LeBeau.

Back in 2006, when X-Men: The Last Stand was in production, X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer had plans to use Gambit in the film, but he did not end up returning to helm the threequel.

Tatum was preemptively selected to play Gambit in The Last Stand but the character ended up being written out of the script before he was officially cast.

Flash forward to X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), when Gambit was locked into the film's script, but this time it was Tatum who had the conflict, as he was locked in filming GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra while X-Men Origins: Wolverine was in production.

Taylor Kitsch was cast instead, signing a three-picture deal, though X-Men Origins: Wolverine's poor performance ended the franchise’s future plans for more X-Men Origins movies and also essentially ended Kitsch's short reign as Gambit.

Tatum’s shot finally seemed to come to fruition in 2015, when he attended Comic-Con with Fox, and was announced as Gambit in a solo outing, alongside the cast of X-Men Apocalypse and Deadpool (2016).

But that was as far as that project ever went, as it was kicked around from one director to another, after three dropped out, and Tatum hoped that maybe he could helm the film in a last ditch effort to get it made, but Fox quickly canceled the project altogether, and Tatum was left devastated.

So this appearance was so very sweet for Tatum, as well as the fans who were interested in his take. I loved him as Gambit, and I am hoping that because he wasn’t killed off in the film, we will see him again.

He was so funny and badass and cool. Are you hoping to see Gambit return in future MCU projects?
