Review: ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD is Quentin Tarantino's Best Film Yet

This is going to be one of the hardest reviews that I have had to write in a while. I loved everything about this movie and I want to sing its praises from the rooftops. However, I don’t want to spoil anything for you, so this review is spoiler free.

Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood is a true love letter to not only the real Hollywood, but to the people that make it work. Growing up in Los Angeles, you know at least one person that has or is going to “make it in Hollywood.”

Quentin Tarantino tells a tale of an aging actor and his best friend/stunt double trying navigate Hollywood in the 60’s. The story of Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) is a real view of what life in Hollywood is like. Once Upon a Time works because of the combination of expert writing and perfect acting. Unlike a lot of movies that we see today, you can see how deftly Tarantino orchestrates every scene with such trust in the audience that he doesn’t have to go to the lowest common denominator to keep the fans interested. I feel that it is one of the most understated Tarantino films in the best way possible.

Tarantino has created a masterpiece with Once Upon a Time. It is unlike anything that he has put out to date, but there are still the classic touches that only Tarantino can bring. It is shot beautifully and the actors who are in the film, no matter how small the role, have taken their game to a level that I am not used to seeing. There is no cheek, and no winking to the audience. It has the feel of a documentary focused on Dalton, Booth and Margot Robbie’s Sharon Tate. The performances of DiCaprio, Pitt, and Robbie are probably the best of their careers. In my opinion, they all three deserve Academy Awards for their roles in this film and Tarantino should just be given his Oscar right now.

The whole film is a slow build to a crescendo that was perfect, emotional, surprising, and far beyond what I expected. The ending of the film was perfect. Again, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood is masterpiece of a film and is by far one of my favorite movies of all time.

Please, please, PLEASE go see this movie. It is a breath of fresh air in a world that is trying its best to watch you drown. I know that this is purely my opinion, but this film is worth everything that we can give it.

If you’ve seen the film already, let us know what you thought of it!
