Square Enix Gives One Heck of a Show at E3 2021
Square Enix had a strong showing at E3 2021 this year with their Summer Showcase. I’ve included some highlights below, but let us know your favorite items in the comments below. I’ve included the show in its entirety at the bottom.
We start off with a World Premiere. This is always a good sign. The team at Eidos Montreal showed us a bit of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game covered more in-depth here. I will say that this game looks ridiculously fun. You can play Guardians of the Galaxy on October 26 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
Next, we have Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. This sounds like a dream for fans of the original Final Fantasy franchise. This remaster features updated 2D graphics for the first six Final Fantasy games. Each one will launch separately on Steam and mobile devices soon.
Legend of Mana got a brief tease as well. The game launches on June 24 on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Steam.
The new War for Wakanda free update for Marvel’s Avengers was shown off with more details here. However, we also got a look at some of the other upcoming events and content for the game including facing the Scientist Supreme and exploring the Wastelands. There are going to be new exploration based rewards, randomized boss fights, and more added to the game with these upcoming updates, so fans should get pretty excited.
We then got a look at mobile gaming content. This started off with Hitman Sniper: The Shadows which is coming this year. This was followed by NieR Reincarnation which you can pre-register for now. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius then announced a new limited collaboration with Final Fantasy lasting from June 16-July 13. The game then celebrated its 5th anniversary with a new campaign launching June 17. Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier was then shown off with a launch later this year.
Babylon’s Fall was the next non-mobile game to get the spotlight. The game definitely has an interesting art design. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I know some people are going to love it. Based solely ont his trailer, it looks like you’ll play as one of four characters, each with their own unique playstyle. It could be a lot of fun. You can play the game by yourself or with 3 of your friends for 4-player co-op. The game will be available on PC, PS4, and PS5 with registration for the closed beta now open.
Life is Strange showed off a new look at the Remastered Collection before giving us a better look at True Colors. The Remastered Collection will be available on September 30. True Colors looks like it’s really going to be a trip as you can use your abilities as an empath. With certain individuals, the world will change when you try to connect with them. True Colors will be available on September 10.
The next game is a new title where you’ll try to kill Chaos. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a new hack ‘n slash title where it looks like you play as a trio of friends trying to climb a castle and defeat Chaos who looks dope (and is voiced by Chris Sabbat). Fans will be able to play this new title in 2022 via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A demo will be available soon on the PS5.
We were then treated to a hodgepodge collection of titles from Square Enix that are available now and some that are coming soon like NEO: The World Ends with You and Forspoken.
