SQUID GAME Director Set To Helm New Film KILLING OLD PEOPLE CLUB
Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk has jumped on board a new film project that he will helm titled Killing Old People Club. This sounds like it’s going to be the feel-good movie of the year! But, not really.
Dong-hyuk shared that he’s already written a 25-page treatment about the project which he says will surely be “another controversial film.” The film is inspired by a novel written by Umberto Eco, the revered Italian intellectual and essayist.
Dong-hyuk also said that the film will be “more violent than Squid Game,” and added that he “might have to hide from old people after the film comes out.” There’s no info on when Killing Old People Club would go into production, but it likely won’t be until after the second season of Squid Game is finished.
The filmmaker is returning home to South Korea to write the second season of Squid Game, and he hopes to release it on Netflix by the end of 2024.
The filmmaker went on to share a story about meeting Steven Spielberg, who had high praise for Squid Game, saying that it has changed the film and television industry for the better, as it’s proven how successful films and shows can be without big A-list casts and domestic pull.
Dong-hyuk said: “Steven Spielberg told me ‘I watched your whole show in three days and now I want to steal your brain!. It was like the biggest compliment I ever got in my life because he’s my film hero. I grew up watching his movies.”
That must’ve been so cool for him! Fans of Squid Game are excitedly waiting for Season 2, which won’t be for a while. But, this other film project of his also sounds like it’s going to be crazy!
