SQUID GAME Season 2 Officially Announced By Netflix with Promo Teaser
Netflix has released a brief promo teaser officially announcing Squid Game Season 2. It features a brief animation of the gigantic animatronic doll from the first season and it came with the caption, “Red light… GREENLIGHT!”. We know that creator, writer, director and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk has been working on the series for a while and he released the following statement:
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”
He goes on to reveal that the protagonist of the story, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), and the masked antagonist, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), will both return for the second season:
“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You'll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round."
It’s still crazy to me how wildly popular Squid Game became, and it happened so fast! I actually put off watching it for a while because I didn’t think it would live up to the hype. But, when I did end up watching it, yeah… the story hooked me pretty fast.
In the first season, "a mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won. Every game is a Korean traditional children's game, such as Red Light and Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?"
When previously talking about what he envisioned for Season 2, Dong-Hyuk said, "I have a very high-level picture in my mind." It’ll be interesting to see how he continues the story.
