Stadia is Officially Dead But You Can Make the Controller a Generic Bluetooth Controller
Google Stadia is officially dead. It has moved on to greener pastures. I personally loved the video game streaming service and saw a lot of potential. It had relatively few problems with Cyberpunk 2077 at launch which is massive considering how broken the game was on other platforms. It let me play Destiny 2 with friends without having to download the game which I never play on my own onto my hard drive and hog up a massive chunk. It sadly was doomed from the start as Google is obsessed with self-sabotage and killing any product/service that consumers actually like. Farewell Stadia.
Well, if you ended up buying a Stadia Controller, there’s some good news: you don’t have to throw it away. As a final act of goodwill, Google released a tool which will make your Stadia Controller a standard Bluetooth controller. You can follow the steps from the official site by December 31, 2023 to make it possible. One interesting note is that they do make a note to explain that this is a permanent change and “you can’t change it back to use Wi-Fi on Stadia.” I find this note hilarious because it’s worded in a way that implies someone would be able to even use the controller for Stadia at this point. Silly Google.
Feel free to leave some of your Stadia memories in the comments below and if you’re now using the Stadia Controller via Bluetooth.
