Stan Winston's 1988 Creature Feature PUMPKINHEAD Is Getting a Remake
Paramount Players is set to direct a remake of director Stan Winston’s classic monster movie Pumpkinhead. I enjoyed the original film. It was a great horror flick, and I loved the terrifying design of the creature. It scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, and I loved it.
The original film starred Lance Henriksen (Aliens) as Ed Harley, and after his son is killed, he conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy those who were responsible for his son’s death.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, the script for the remake is complete and production in ramping up. There’s no word on who is directing the film or who’s starring in it, but that news should drop in the coming months. A few years ago it was announced that Peter Block would be producing the new film from a screenplay by Nate Atkins (S. Darko).
There were four total films produced for the Pumpkinhead franchise. The other two include the 1994 sequel Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, and the made-for-TV Syfy Channel follows ups Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes in 2006 and Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud in 2007.
I’m not surprised that Pumpkinhead is getting remade. It was only a matter of time.
