Lunatic at Large was one of three film projects that were found in director Stanely Kubrick’s library after he died in 1999. Producers Bruce Hendricks (The Sixth Sense) and Galen Walker (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) have optioned the rights to the archival project and they plan to adapt it into feature film.

No details have been shared regarding the plot of the film, but the producers described it as “a film-noir thriller in keeping with other collaborations between Kubrick and his frequent collaborator, screenwriter Jim Thompson.”

Walker said in a statement: “The opportunity to bring a Stanley Kubrick project to the screen after so many years is a dream come true. We look forward to making a film in keeping with his unique style and vision.”

Hendricks added: “Stanley Kubrick was an enormous influence on so many directors, and we are honored that the Kubrick Estate has entrusted us with one of his original ideas.”

Kubrick was a one-of-kind and unique filmmaker who made some incredible films over the course of his career. He was so meticulous when crafting his films and I doubt that any other filmmaker could live up to his expectations as a filmmaker, but these guys are going to make the attempt to bring this film he was working on to life, and I wish them the best of luck!

Production is slated to begin in fall 2021.
