STAR TREK 4 Has Reportedly Been Shelved
Ever since Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth dropped out of Star Trek 4 over contract negotiations, we haven’t really had any updates… until now.
According to Deadline, the project has been shelved by the studio, and its director is moving on to other projects, like the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. This is what the report said:
I hear Clarkson was recruited by HBO for GOT after she recently became available. Earlier this year, Clarkson was the first female director to be tapped to direct a Star Trek movie when she was hired to helm the fourth feature in the current series. That project has since been shelved.
This is a shame to hear because I was looking forward to seeing what this fourth film would have entailed. Apparently, Paramount Pictures would rather shelve it instead of try to make things work with Pine and Hemsworth.
Pine and Hemsworth were supposed to reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and his father George Kirk, respectively, and the story would center around the two coming together somehow and embarking on an adventure. Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Simon Pegg (Scotty), and John Cho (Sulu) will obviously all be involved in the story as well.
There’s no definitive reason given as to why the movie was scrapped, but I imagine the studio just didn’t know how to move forward with the franchise without Pine and Hemsworth.
What do you think about the studio shelving Star Trek 4? I guess it’s ok because CBS All Access is going to be giving fans all of the Star Trek projects they could want!
