STAR TREK 4 Writer Offers Update Saying The Project is Still on Track
It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 4 project from anyone on the creative team. But, screenwriter Lindsey Beer recently shared some intel saying that the project is still “on track.”
While talking to Collider, she explained: "It is, it's still on the tracks. I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project."
The movie that she hopped on to direct was Pet Semetary: Bloodlines, but it seems like she’s still very much in the loop with what’s going on. She was writing the script with Geneva Robertson-Dworet, when Matt Shakman was attached to direct. He ended up stepping away to work on Marvel’s Fantastic Four. As of right now, no director is attached to the film.
The most recent version of Star Trek 4 was announced in 2022, and Star Trek director and producer Abrams shared at the time: “We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new Star Trek film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take Star Trek into areas that you’ve just never seen before.”
Abrams later offered an update on the film saying that he still hasn’t found a new director for the movie, but added that “it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one.”
I don’t think Star Trek 4 is going to happen anytime soon. It will most likely be several more years before the movie gets made, but I’m sure one day, we will see it.
