STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Has Been Renewed For Season 3!
Fans of the series Star Trek: Discovery will be happy to learn that CBS All Access has officially renewed it for a third season!
I’m still slowly making my way through Season 2, but I’m really happy with how the creative team has been handling this show. It’s not really a surprise that we will be getting a third season. While the streaming service has plans for lots of new Star Trek shows, this is their flagship series and I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
It’s also being reported that series co-executive producer and writer Michelle Paradise has been tapped to serve as co-showrunner alongside Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman is overseeing the entire expansion of the Star Trek universe, so it makes sense that he’d need some help. Kurtzman had this to say in a statement:
“Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of ‘Trek. Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the ‘Trek’ legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ together.”
Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content for CBS All Access added:
“The massive success of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’s’ second season launch exceeded our expectations in both driving subscriber growth and generating a phenomenal response from ‘Star Trek’ fans. With Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise at the helm, we look forward to continuing ‘Star Trek: Discovery’s’ journey, growing the ‘Star Trek’ franchise on CBS All Access and bringing fans new ‘Star Trek’ stories for many years to come.”
I imagine most of the cast members from the series will return for Season 3 including Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anson Mount, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, and Ethan Peck.
On top of Star Trek: Discovery, CBS is producing two animated Star Trek programs, a series based around Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard series, and one that will revolve around Michelle Yeoh’s Captain Philippa Georgiou.
