STAR TREK: PICARD Showrunner Offers Details on the New USS Titan-A Ship Describing it as a "Hero Ship"

In the most recent trailer for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, we got to see The Next Generation crew reunite and it also introduced a new ship which is called the USS Titan-A. The ship features Seven of Nine as its commander, having finally joined Starfleet.

We have some new details to share in regards to this new ship and it’s confirmed that this is not the same Titan that Will Riker commanded in Star Trek: Nemesis. But, they do share a connection. Star Trek: Picard Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas recently offered up some details and explained the connection between the two Titan ships in a recent interview with TrekMovie

"It is the Titan-A, yes. You'll see in the season, that in the observation room we honor the previous Titans that have come before. You'll see a gold model of the Luna class USS Titan as seen in Lower Decks, which was designed by Sean Tourangeau. And we even see a previous incarnation from the TOS movie era. We'll see that there was a Titan that was a bit of a Constitution class as well, the original Shangri-La class [designed by Bill Krause]. So, the idea was that after the Luna class's legacy run with Riker, that ship was damaged and retired. Some of the systems were refit and put into this new Titan, the Titan-A."

Matalas went on to talk about the purpose of the Titan-A, saying that it’s an exploratory vessel:

"It is a classic exploratory vessel that is a bit of an underdog in the situation that it gets into. So we really wanted to take a moment here and think about where Starfleet is at and how it would see advantages in the diversification of ship designs including purpose-built ships that were designed for specific types of missions. The new Titan is more of a long-range workhorse of a ship. Harkening back to the Constitution class that was designed for the long 5-year missions. It is an exploratory vessel with some serious maneuvering capabilities. Have you seen those impulse engines? Phew!"

He goes on to describe the Titan-A as a “hero ship.” We’ll have to wait and see what that exactly means when we watch the final season of the series!

The series stars Patrick Stewart as Picard, Jonathan Frakes as William T. Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, Brent Spiner as Data, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forg, Michael Dorn as Worf, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker, and Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher for a new space adventure! Then of course there’s Jeri Ryan as Commander Seven of Nine.

Star Trek: Picard will premiere on Thursday, February 16th, exclusively in the U.S. on Paramount+.
