STAR TREK: PICARD Showrunner Says Season 3 Will Be "Very Different" and a More "Cinematic Experience"
That most recent trailer that was released for Star Trek: Picard Season 3 got me incredibly excited for what this next chapter of the story is going to give us! This final season of the series is apparently going to give us something very different, though.
Co-showrunner Terry Matalas recently did an interview with TrekMovie in which he reveals that there is going to be a shift in style and that it will be a more cinematic experience.
"It is very different. We really wanted to make this as cinematic an experience as possible. If there wasn't going to be a final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie then this 10-episode series would serve that and feel like that. So when it comes out, my recommendation would be to turn off the lights, pop some popcorn, and you got 10 chapters ahead of you that should feel as cinematic as possible."
That just sounds fantastic! This is what I’ve been excited about seeing! The Next Generation crew coming back together for one final epic adventure. On top of Patrick Stewart coming back to play Captain Picard, the series also features Jonathan Frakes as William T. Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, Brent Spiner as Data, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forg, Michael Dorn as Worf, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker, Gates McFadden, and Jeri Ryan as Commander Seven of Nine on a new ship called USS Titan-A.
When asked about the possibility of a new Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, producer Alex Kurtzman noted that Star Trek: Picard Season 3 pretty much is what such a movie would be. But, he’s not ruling it out and says: "I think that in some ways season three is that. But of course, I mean, look, if you guys love it, let's see what happens."
Matalas previously talked about bringing back the Next Generation cast saying:
"I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, it's most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can't wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!"
What are your thoughts on how the creative team wants to bring Star Trek: Picard to an end? Star Trek: Picard will premiere on Thursday, February 16th, exclusively in the U.S. on Paramount+.
