STAR TREK's Jonathan Frakes is Pushing For STAR TREK: LEGACY Saying Studio "Can't Deny The Fan Reaction"
Star Trek franchise star Jonathan Frakes is hopeful that one day Paramount will greenlight the spinoff series Star Trek: Legacy. The project was pitched by Picard showrunner Terry Matales, and it was envisioned as a continuation of The Next Generation and set after the events of Picard.
Frakes is pushing for the series and believes there’s enough excitement and interest from fans to make it a reality. He told Variety in a recent interview:
“I think they can’t deny not only the fan reaction, but the fact that the numbers put the show at the Top 10 on the streaming charts. And that season of Star Trek: Picard was arguably among the best seasons of any Star Trek — I think we all agree on that. I mean, Star Trek fans are loyal. It’s not millions and millions of people, and it’s not the youngest fandom in the world…”
Frakes went on to say that he has no doubts that Star Trek: Legacy will get made one day, saying:
“I am an eternal optimist, and I believe in a perfect world, they will find the assets and the energy and hire Terry to put together this Legacy show and that will, in fact, come to fruition.”
That final season of Picard was pretty damn incredible, and Paramount would be stupid not to pursue Star Trek: Legacy. It makes complete sense to continue the story of some of these characters from The Next Generation. Matales has proved that they can tell a great story with these characters and I would love to see their story continue!
Season 3 concluded with a one-year time jump and set the stage for another series as Captain Seven of Nine takes command of the U.S.S. Enterprise-G alongside Jack Crusher, Picard’s son, embarking on his assignment in the field.
Matales has previously said that there are currently no plans to develop Star Trek: Legacy, as Paramount has enough Star Trek shows in the works. But c’mon, we could always use another one! Especially one that fans want to see!
