Star Wars Actor John Boyega Opens Up About THE LAST JEDI Saying It Felt "A Bit Iffy"

Star Wars fans are a fickle bunch. Generally speaking, they love the originals, hate the prequels, and have been fairly divided regarding the most recent films. But between the two films that have come out in this trilogy, fans have been more judgmental of Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017). The film is the meat in the final trilogy sandwich, and fans were not super pleased with the Rian Johnson film.

But it turns out, it wasn’t just the fans who weren’t happy. In a recent interview with hypebeast, Star Wars actor John Boyega talked all about his experience with the trilogy, including the highly anticipated upcoming finale, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. But he also touched on The Last Jedi, and said:

“The Force Awakens I think was the beginning of something quite solid, The Last Jedi if I'm being honest I'd say that was feeling a bit iffy for me. I didn't necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that's something that spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated.”

It definitely did have a different feel than The Force Awakens and the original films. I’m one of the people who liked it, but I understand the complaints as well. He went on to say:

“I guess the original Star Wars films there was much more of a trio feel where it was essentially about Luke's journey, but Han and Leia there was a strong dynamic, which I think, I don't know how quickly we're going to be able to establish that longterm dynamic with [Episode] Nine. But if it's exploring that dynamic, then that would be cool. I do feel even after three films still, we don't know them as much as we got to know Han, Luke, Leia. And maybe that's a great opportunity to get to know them a little bit more.”

I hope so! There is a lot riding on this final film, and I hope it makes everyone happy. I know that’s impossible, but I’m betting on Star Wars magic this Christmas. How about you?

Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.
