STAR WARS: ANDOR Casting Rumor Could Mean the Return of a Sequel Trilogy Villain

A new casting rumor has surfaced regarding Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars: Andor series. The 12-episode Andor series is set five years before the events of Rogue One in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire and is described as a “tense nail-biting spy thriller.” It will see the return of Diego Luna in the title role.

The new casting rumor suggests that we might also see the return of a villain from the sequel trilogy. If you don’t want to know anymore than that, then I suggest you stop reading now.

Making Star Wars is reporting that that Andy Serkis has been cast in the Disney+ series. As you know, Serkis played the controversial villain Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With Serkis possibly joining the film, there’s a good chance that Snoke will return in some way.

But, as we’ve learned, there are many Snokes in the Star Wars universe. The report points out, “When did Palpatine begin playing puppet master to soulless bodies? Was Snoke an original being Darth Sidious cloned or was he created from ‘scratch?’” Thet go on to speculate that “there is a chance Serkis could play the original being Palpatine took the DNA from.”

There’s also a chance that Serkis might not be playing Snoke at all. He could be playing a completely different character. His likeness was never used in the films, so it’s not like Lucasfilm couldn’t bring him back to play someone else. That’s definitely a big possibility.

Luna previously teased, "You'll definitely see familiar faces," Luna told Deadline. "I can tell you about this project like no other because I can't spoil the ending if you've seen [Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can't ruin the ending."

I’m curious to see what will come of this rumor. Would you want to see Serkis back as Snoke? Or would you rather see him play a different character?

The series also stars Genevieve O’Reilly, who will reprise her role as Mon Mothma (Rogue One, Tin Can), Denise Gough (Collett, Angels in America), and Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina, The Titan), and it was also previously announced that Stellan Skarsgard (Thor, Good Will Hunting) has joined the series, along with Adria Arjona (6 Underground). Jimmy Smits and Alistair Petrie were also in talks to join as Bail Organa and General Draven. Alan Tudyk will eventually join the series as his droid character K-2SO, but he will not appear in the first season.

The series was written by Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Beau Willimon (House of Cards), and Stephen Schiff (The Americans). Tony Gilroy will also serve as showrunner.
