STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 3 Could Be Developed by Bungie or DICE, According to New Report
Star Wars fans have been asking for a new Battlefront game for years, and it looks like Disney may finally be considering making it happen. A new report claims the company is exploring options for Star Wars Battlefront 3, with two major studios potentially in contention to develop the game. One of them is an obvious choice, while the other could make things pretty interesting.
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Disney is reportedly considering DICE and Bungie as potential developers for the next Star Wars Battlefront game.
Grubb shared the information during a recent episode of Game Mess Mornings, explaining that DICE remains the most likely candidate. That makes sense, considering the studio developed EA's previous two Battlefront games and already knows how to deliver large-scale Star Wars multiplayer battles.
Bungie, however, is the more surprising possibility. The studio responsible for Halo and Destiny has plenty of experience creating sci-fi shooters, and the idea of that team taking on massive battles involving Stormtroopers, Jedi, and Rebel forces is pretty exciting.
There's also already a connection between Bungie and Disney, as Destiny 2 previously featured Star Wars-inspired content. While that doesn't guarantee anything, it does show that the two companies have worked together.
The renewed interest in Battlefront shouldn't come as much of a surprise. When Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched in 2017, it faced major criticism over its loot boxes and monetization practices. Despite that rocky reception, the game went on to become one of EA's most successful multiplayer titles of the past decade, maintaining an active player base years after its release.
The continued popularity makes a pretty strong argument for bringing the franchise back. Bungie could also benefit from landing a project like Battlefront 3. With Destiny 2 reaching the later stages of its lifespan and Marathon reportedly failing to achieve the success Bungie had hoped for, the studio could use another major franchise.
A new Star Wars Battlefront would give Bungie an established property with a massive fan base, along with an opportunity to put its shooter expertise to work in a different universe. The studio has spent decades refining sci-fi combat, so it would be interesting to see what it could do with the scale and variety of the Star Wars galaxy.
Of course, DICE still seems like the safer choice. The developer has already established the foundation for modern Battlefront games, and there's a lot to build on from Battlefront 2. Bringing the original team back could give fans more of what they loved while improving the features that needed work.
It's important to note that Disney hasn't officially announced Star Wars Battlefront 3, and Grubb emphasized that the game isn't currently confirmed to be in development. The discussions reportedly remain in the early stages, so there's no guarantee either studio will ultimately get the job.
Still, the possibility of another Battlefront game is exciting, especially considering how long fans have been waiting for a proper sequel.
Personally, I'd love to see what Bungie could bring to the franchise. The studio knows how to make shooting feel great, and combining that experience with massive Star Wars battles could result in something pretty awesome.
But what do you think? Would you rather see DICE return for Star Wars Battlefront 3, or would you like to see Bungie take a shot at the franchise?
