STAR WARS Fans Can Expect the Unexpected From Kylo Ren in THE LAST JEDI
While visiting The Today Show, Adam Driver showed up to talk about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He honestly didn't say much. The only thing he said is that fans should expect the unexpected from Kylo Ren.
I thought that little statement could make for a good discussion among fans. What do you think the unexpected would be for Kylo Ren in his ongoing story arc. He's already done the unexpected once! I know he's a villain, but I honestly didn't think that he would actually kill his own dad, Han Solo! So, when he ran him through with his Lightsaber, I was shocked. I totally didn't expect that.
At this point, the unexpected for me would be to see him actually feel remorseful and try to change his ways because I think he might just be beyond that. I wouldn't expect that from him. But, maybe he will go even darker! Go darker to an unexpected level of "Holy Shit!"
There are really two major extremes of unexpected. But who knows, maybe director Rian Johnson will throw in some interesting twists and turns that will surprise us! When previously talking about the character, Johnson said:
“He’s definitely been knocked off base. The defeat that he had at the end of The Force Awakens, but even bigger than that, his huge defining act which, spoiler alert, is the murder of his father… that’s the more interesting thing to dive into. How has hedealt with that in his head? Where is he at in terms of that act and what does that mean for him?”
Johnson added that Ben Solo’s turn to the dark side is symbolic of "the treacherous road through adolescence", which is a familiar story arc in the Star Wars universe.
“Kylo represents kind of the rebellious anger that you feel during that period. Honestly, sometimes it’s a healthy desire to push away from the place that you know, from the things that you came from. But he obviously does it in an extreme that’s not healthy at all.”
Where do you see Kylo Ren's story arc going? What do you hope to see happen with him in the next film?
