STAR WARS: FROM A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW Follow-Up Will Focus on the Untold Stories of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

Lucasfilm has announced the next Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View anthology book, which will feature 40 new short stories from 40 different authors that are set during the events of The Empire Strikes Back. This will be untold stories that are connected to the classic film.

I really enjoyed the first anthology book that focused on the untold stories from A New Hope. It’s explained that this new book is a reimagining of “the classic sequel through the eyes of background characters — heroes, villains, droids and creatures.”

The book will include work from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta, Amy Ratcliffe, Mark Oshiro, Django Wexler, Kiersten White, Mike Chen, Emily Skrutskie, Karen Strong, Catherynne Valente, Lilliam Rivera, Rob Hart, Jim Zub, and more, each of them tackling different characters and events.

What I love about these stories is that they expand on the universe through its minor characters and overlooked corners of the Star Wars universe. The full roster of authors will be announced on StarWars.com on Monday, June 16th.

All of the writers of the project are forgoing compensation for their work. Instead, they will be donating their proceeds to First Book, which is “a leading nonprofit that provides new books, learning materials, and other essentials to educators and organizations serving children in need.” Penguin Random House will also donate $100,000 to First Book, and Disney/Lucasfilm will donate 100,000 children’s books — valued at $1,000,000 — to support First Book’s mission. So, that’s pretty cool!

From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back will debut on November 10th. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of stories we get!
