STAR WARS: Gareth Edwards Hired to Direct Spinoff Film

Disney / Lucasfilm are moving quickly toward production on their Star Wars spinoff films by hiring Gareth Edwards to direct one of the projects. THR reports that due to secrecy no specific film has named. We already reported Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are writing Star Wars spinoff scripts, so it looks like at least one of these is ready for preproduction.

We know that these spinoffs will be origin stories and that they will be centered on Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett. Given Edwards' track record with creatures in the movies Monsters and Godzilla, maybe it's Yoda. But I think he'd do well with a Boba Fett movie, too.

Edwards is a very talented director who will open up the Star Wars universe beyond the Skywalker-centered movies we've seen so far.
