STAR WARS Image Shows Anakin Skywalker Ruling the Galaxy With His Family
What if Anakin Skywalker had embraced the dark side and actually gotten everything he wanted? Elon Musk shared an AI-generated Star Wars image imagining that alternate reality, and it's a pretty wild look at what the Skywalker family could have become.
Musk posted the image on X with the caption, “This is what they stole from us.” The artwork features Anakin Skywalker sitting on an imposing Sith throne with Padmé Amidala at his side.
Their children, Luke and Leia, stand before them, while Imperial Royal Guards and Stormtroopers fill the background. It's basically the Skywalker family running the Empire together, with Anakin and Padmé ruling as the galaxy's ultimate power couple.
The post quickly took off, pulling in more than 5.3 million views. It's an interesting alternate take on Anakin's story because his entire downfall was driven by his desperation to save Padmé.
As we saw in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, his fear of losing her pushed him into the arms of Emperor Palpatine, leading to his transformation into Darth Vader.
Instead of saving his family, Anakin destroyed it. He Force-choked Padmé on Mustafar, she later died after giving birth, and Luke and Leia were separated and raised without knowing their true parentage.
Musk's image imagines a completely different outcome. Anakin still becomes a Sith Lord, but Padmé survives, their children remain together, and the Skywalkers establish themselves as an Imperial dynasty.
Of course, there's something pretty disturbing about the idea of Anakin getting his happy ending by becoming the ruler of a fascist galactic Empire. Sure, the family is together, but the rest of the galaxy probably isn't having such a great time.
The post also comes during a recent surge of Anakin Skywalker memes on X, many of which portray the fallen Jedi as a young man who became disillusioned after being betrayed by the institutions he once believed in.
Musk has been participating in that trend, recently reposting content featuring Count Dooku and describing the Separatist leader's statements as factual.
The Anakin meme trend has even made its way into cryptocurrency. A Solana-based meme coin called ANAKIN briefly hit a market capitalization of $3.39 million as interest in the character spread across social media.
It's kind of funny how Anakin Skywalker's tragic story continues to take on a life of its own more than two decades after the prequel trilogy. One minute he's the ultimate cautionary tale about fear, obsession, and the corrupting influence of power. The next, he's the internet's favorite misunderstood Sith Lord.
As for Musk's AI-generated Star Wars image, it certainly makes for an interesting alternate timeline, but it's hard to imagine Padmé, who spent her life fighting against authoritarian rule, happily sitting on an Imperial throne.
