STAR WARS Is Going Big With New Books and Comics for Its 50th Anniversary in 2027

2027 is going to be a massive year for Star Wars. The galaxy far, far away turns 50, and Lucasfilm is already lining up a full year of movies, shows, events, comics, and books to celebrate.

Fans already have Star Wars: Starfighter on the way, a theatrical re-release of A New Hope, Ahsoka Season 2, and Star Wars Celebration. Now, thanks to a New York Comic Con reveal, we’ve got a look at some of the new Star Wars books and comics coming in 2027.

There’s a lot on the way, but here are some of the most notable releases that fans will want to keep on their radar.

Star Wars: Starfighter

Lucasfilm is going all in on Star Wars: Starfighter, which makes sense since the movie is one of the biggest pieces of the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The new live-action film will be supported by several publishing releases, including an Art Of book from Phil Szostak, a visual dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo, and a novelization by Delilah Dawson.

There will also be a batch of children’s books tied to the movie, and some of the titles already sound like they’re having a lot of fun with the new corner of the galaxy.

Those include Rumble with the Rock Pirate, Outer Rim Outcast, and The Rock Pirate of Kaneen.

The covers are being kept under wraps for now and will be revealed closer to the movie’s May release.

Until then, we’re left to wonder what exactly a Rock Pirate is and why I already want to know everything about them.

Star Wars: Celebrating 50 Years of A New Hope

For fans who want to look back at the movie that launched the whole thing, Star Wars: Celebrating 50 Years of A New Hope sounds like one of the big anniversary books to watch.

Written by Kristin Baver, the book will feature “a star-studded lineup of actors, astronauts, athletes, and innovators to trace the seismic shift and resonant impact the original Star Wars film has had on individuals and industries.”

That’s a pretty great angle for a 50th anniversary book. A New Hope didn’t just kick off a franchise.

It changed the way people watched movies, made movies, played with toys, told sci-fi stories, and imagined what blockbuster entertainment could be.

Star Wars: A Celebration

Another big legacy release coming in 2027 is Star Wars: A Celebration from Pablo Hidalgo and Anthony Breznican.

This one has already been announced, but it remains one of the major books tied to the anniversary.

It chronicles 50 years of Star Wars, which is a wild thing to think about. Half a century of Jedi, Sith, smugglers, droids, bounty hunters, weird aliens, and fans arguing passionately about every corner of the canon.

There’s also a Target exclusive edition, giving collectors another version to chase down. Because of course there is. This is Star Wars, and our shelves were never safe.

Star Wars: A New Hope Shooting Script Special Edition

One of the coolest reveals from the new publishing lineup is a special edition of the shooting script for A New Hope by George Lucas.

For longtime fans, writers, film students, collectors, and anyone obsessed with how the original Star Wars came together, this could be a must-own release.

Shooting script books can be incredibly fun because they let you see the movie in a different form, almost like cracking open a piece of film history.

With A New Hope celebrating its 50th anniversary, releasing Lucas’ shooting script feels like the right kind of archival treat. It gives fans a new way to revisit the film that started it all.

Star Wars: Ahsoka

One of the most exciting comic reveals is a five-issue Star Wars: Ahsoka series co-written by Dave Filoni.

The comic will explore what happened to Ezra Bridger on Grand Admiral Thrawn’s ship as they traveled back from Peridea. That immediately makes it feel like essential reading for fans waiting on Ahsoka Season 2.

Ezra’s return was one of the biggest pieces of the first season, but there’s clearly a lot of story left to tell about what happened during that journey.

This comic sounds like it will fill in some important gaps while also helping build momentum for the next chapter of the series.

Star Wars: Princess of the Rebellion

Claudia Gray is returning to Star Wars with Princess of the Rebellion, and that alone should get fans excited.

Gray has written some of the best modern Star Wars novels, and this new story is set during a fascinating stretch of time between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

The book follows Leia Organa as she recruits Luke Skywalker and Han Solo to help her uncover secrets left behind by her father, Bail Organa.

That’s a cool hook, especially because this era gives the story room to explore Leia’s grief, leadership, and growing bond with Luke and Han after the destruction of Alderaan.

Leia-centered stories usually bring out some of the best material in Star Wars publishing, and with Gray writing this one, Princess of the Rebellion already feels like a standout.

More Star Wars Books, Comics, and Collectibles Are Coming

These titles are only part of what Lucasfilm has planned for the 50th anniversary. There’s also a Dungeons & Dragons collaboration, a manga re-release, a Funko coloring book, and more on the way.

So, 2027 is shaping up to be packed for Star Wars fans. Between Starfighter, Ahsoka Season 2, the return of A New Hope to theaters, and all of these books and comics, Lucasfilm is clearly treating the 50th anniversary like a full-on celebration of the franchise’s past, present, and future.

Start clearing some shelf space now. You’re probably going to need it.
