STAR WARS: MAUL – SHADOW LORD Finale Drops Epic Vader Showdown and a Hidden Luke Skywalker Callback
The finale of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord delivered a moment fans have been waiting decades to see. The long-teased clash between Darth Maul and Darth Vader finally explodes on screen, and while that is enough to get fans fired up, the episode slips in a clever nod to Luke Skywalker that’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention.
This episode doesn’t just rely on spectacle. It threads together action, betrayal, and some deep-cut Star Wars DNA that connects past and future in a really cool way.
During the chaos, Vader isn’t just dealing with Maul. He also faces off against Jedi Padawan Devon Izara and her Master Eeko-Dio Daki.
The duel between Vader and Daki is where things get interesting for fans. Vader unleashes a brutal overhead barrage with his lightsaber, repeatedly striking down at Daki in a way that mirrors a very specific moment from Return of the Jedi.
If that move felt familiar, it’s because Luke used that exact same attack against Vader during their throne room confrontation when he was dangerously close to falling to the dark side. It’s a subtle visual echo, but one that ties Vader’s past and future together in a slick and meaningful way.
The fight doesn’t end well for the Jedi. Maul turns on Daki mid-battle, Force pushing him closer to Vader and sealing his fate. It’s a cold move that reinforces just how dangerous and unpredictable Maul really is.
Brander Lawson is the only one who witnesses the betrayal, but he chooses to stay behind, sacrificing himself so the others can escape.
That aftermath hits hard. Devon, shaken by everything she’s seen, makes a huge decision and agrees to train under Maul. That choice opens the door to some wild possibilities moving forward, especially with Season 2 already confirmed.
One big theory is that Devon could eventually evolve into Talon, a character originally tied to George Lucas’ abandoned sequel trilogy ideas. When asked about that speculation, supervising director Brad Rau kept things mysterious, saying:
"We can't give away too much. We have heard a lot of the fan theories and speculations, and we are fascinated by them. We'll just put it at that, leave it at that."
With another season on the way, Maul – Shadow Lord will continue the story arcs of these characters, and the series is more than ready to dig deeper into the darker corners of the galaxy.
As for what’s next in the Star Wars universe, fans won’t have to wait long. The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, bringing the galaxy far, far away back to the big screen in a big way.
