STAR WARS: MAUL – SHADOW LORD Season 2 Gets Promising Update Ahead of Finale
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has been a slick, stylish, fun, and dark ride through the galaxy’s criminal underworld, and the story is far from over. With the Season 1 finale right around the corner, a new update has dropped that should get viewers even more excited about what’s next.
The series has been a standout thanks to its striking animation and deeper exploration of Darth Maul, giving the former Sith a layered arc that builds on what began in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And now, there’s confirmation that Season 2 isn’t some distant plan, it’s already well underway.
Voice actor Sam Witwer recently spoke about the next chapter and made it clear that fans won’t be left hanging too long. He said:
“It’s the usual development cycle … I know when it’s coming out, but it’s not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too, too long. But I think I am forbidden from saying what I know, but we are working on it. We’ve been working on it for a while, and it’s interesting.”
That suggests Lucasfilm had strong faith in the project early on. Development for Season 2 clearly started well before Season 1 even premiered, and that confidence seems justified. The show is currently sitting at an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Timing is always a tricky thing with major franchises. While live-action series like Ahsoka have taken years between seasons, animation has typically moved at a steadier pace.
The Bad Batch followed a fairly consistent release rhythm, and Shadow Lord could land somewhere in that same range. If that pattern holds, Season 2 might arrive sooner than fans expect, though nothing official has been locked in yet.
Season 1 has laid down some intriguing groundwork, especially with expanding criminal factions and even teasing connections to characters like Dryden Vos. There’s a real sense that the show is building toward something bigger, which makes the idea of a shorter wait between seasons even more appealing.
When Lucasfilm and Disney set out on this journey to tell this story, I imagine they have a full story in mind that that they want to tell and that could be multiple seasons, we just don’t know exactly how many of these seasons have been planned out.
Maul, once a one-and-done villain, has evolved into one of the franchise’s most compelling figures, and this show is pushing that even further.
There’s still plenty of story left to tell, even if fans already know where Maul’s journey ultimately leads. Right now, though, the focus is on the immediate future, and based on this latest update, that future is coming sooner than expected.
