STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Gets a Different Title in Japan

It’s not uncommon for movie titles to be changed for different countries. It happens all the time and Lucasfilm’s upcoming movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has an alternate title for Japan. That title is, Star Wars: Dawn of Skywalker.

That’s an interesting title to use. With the word “Rise”, like in the original title, Rise of Skywalker, it would be to move up from something that has already been set. The word “Dawn” is the beginning of a phenomenon or period of time, so Dawn of Skywalker seems like it would be a more appropriate title for Star Wars: Episode I.

So, there are different meanings to each word, but regardless, we aren’t going to learn anything new about the story of the film from it. Both of these titles will obviously work for the story being told because that’s what Lucasfilm decided to call the movie!

I just hope that the story is great and that it brings an awesome conclusion to the epic Skywalker saga! Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.

The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
