STAR WARS: ROGUE SQUADRON Director Patty Jenkins Reportedly Frustrated with Lucasfilm's Micromanagement

Last week it was reported that director Patty JenkinsStar Wars: Rogue Squadron movie was delayed because the filmmaker was “reportedly figuring out her future schedule which includes directing Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros. and Paramount’s Cleopatra.”

Well, as expected, it looks like there’s more to the story than that. According to former THR editor Matthew Belloni, Jenkins was actually frustrated with the some of the Lucasfilm executives and how they micromanage the projects.

It’s said the film has been delayed indefinitely until Lucasfilm can get their crap together. In the meantime, Jenkins is now looking to pursue her other projects. This Star Wars movie was supposed to be her next film project, but not anymore.

According to the report, "That's not unusual, of course, but it's a laughably recurring problem at Lucasfilm under president Kathleen Kennedy, say agents: Top filmmakers are dying to make a Star Wars movie—until they sign on and experience the micromanagement and plot-point-by-committee process.”

He goes on to add, "It happened to the Game of Thrones guys, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who were hired to create a new trilogy but bailed. It also happened to Rian Johnson, writer and director of 2017's The Last Jedi, whose own planned trilogy was shelved. Jenkins wasn't willing to dick around, and she has other projects, notably Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros., where she enjoys more creative freedom."

If this is really an ongoing issue at Lucasfilm, someone has got to step in and fix the situation. It’s crazy to see all of these Star Wars film projects announced and then see them all fall apart and never come to fruition. At least Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni and the rest of the team working on the Disney+ shows are finding success! Maybe they should be the ones running the film division as well.
