STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Creators Explain Why Jude Law Didn't Show Up Until the End of Episode 2
The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew recently premiered on Disney+, and I thought it was a fun show! It’s definitely not for everyone, and some Star Wars fans don’t seem to like it, but I enjoyed it, and it brought out the kid in me.
Jude Law was absent from most of the first two episodes, and he didn’t make his big entrance as the mysterious Jod Na Nawood until the final ten seconds of episode 2.
Series creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford recently opened up about why Law's character doesn't show until the closing moments of the episode.
At the end of episode 2, the crew finds themselves locked up in the brig on the pirate-infested planet of Borgo. Their situation seems dire, but, suddenly, Narwood steps out of the shadows and uses the Force to obtain a jail key.
Watts told GamesRadar+, "I was thinking about [not introducing Jude Law's Jod until the end of episode 2]. I mean, when we wrote that, we didn't know it would be Jude Law.
“This character will show up, that'll be so cool. And then later you go, 'I wish I had more.' Why didn't we put Jude Law in every scene?"
Watts explained: "We wanted to really root the show in the perspective of the kids. We wanted to feel like you're already lost and on an adventure with them [by the time] they meet Jude."
When talking about the appeal of Law's character, Watts added: "Jude is so good in this show because it feels like he already existed in the Star Wars universe for years and years and brought him over to our show. We wanted to create a really mysterious, layered character and I think, in his performance, he brings all of those flavors to it."
I’m looking forward to learning more about Law’s character and seeing how his story arc will ultimately play out.
