STAR WARS Star Daisy Ridley Says The Fan Backlash For THE LAST JEDI is "Fair"
While Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was loved by critics and a lot of fans, there were some very vocal Star Wars fans that didn’t care for the film. Many of those people down-right hated it. Some fans just weren’t happy with some of the story and character decisions that were made.
I get that. While I loved the movie, I can totally understand and accept that some people just didn’t like it, and that’s ok! We all have different tastes and things that we would have liked to see. I personally liked how some of the big plot elements were completely unexpected.
For those of you who didn’t like the movie and have problems with it, Daisy Ridley empathizes with your plight. During an interview with USA Today, the actress was asked if she was surprised by the hostile reception of The Last Jedi, and she explains that she thinks it’s fair.
"I wasn't surprised, no. It’s just a different thing. Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair. If people hold something incredibly dear and think they know how it should be and it's not like that, it’s fair for people to think they were done wrong.
“It doesn’t mean they were – ultimately, Rian’s a filmmaker and one person can’t dictate how a film is supposed to be – but freedom of expression, sure."
Ridley has previously said that J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker will serve as a satisfying conclusion to the saga, but that remains to be seen. I really do hope that Abrams can actually deliver a solid ending to the Skywalker saga that will unite the fans. This upcoming movie is a big deal and the pressure is on for him to get it right.
What do you all think about what Ridley had to say here and do you think Abrams is going to give us a great conclusion to what George Lucas started?
