STAR WARS Star John Boyega Wants in on SPACEBALLS 2: "Let Me Make Spaceballs Legit"

John Boyega may have closed the door on Star Wars, but he’s got his eye on another galaxy far, far funnier. The actor revealed he wants a shot at appearing in the long-awaited sequel to Spaceballs.

“[My phone] hasn’t rung yet, so I have to come here and just say it. They could pick up the phone and give me a call. Let me make Spaceballs legit.”

It would be pretty damn funny if Boyega ended up jumping into the Spaceballs franchise! I hope the producers take him up on the offer.

The original Spaceballs, directed by Mel Brooks, premiered in 1987 and remains one of the most beloved sci-fi parodies ever made.

The film starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga while lampooning Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, and just about anything else in pop culture that was ripe for a laugh.

The story followed Pullman’s scrappy hero Lone Star and Candy’s loyal sidekick Barf as they teamed up to save Princess Vespa (Zuniga) from the bumbling villains President Skroob (Brooks) and Dark Helmet (Moranis).

Now, almost four decades later, Spaceballs 2 is officially on the way. The sequel is set to release in 2027 with returning cast members Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, and Brooks. They’ll be joined by some fresh talent, including Pullman’s real-life son Lewis Pullman as Lone Star’s son Starburst, plus Keke Palmer and Josh Gad.

For Boyega, jumping from Star Wars to Spaceballs would be the ultimate move. Fans still know him best as Finn, the stormtrooper who broke free of the First Order in Disney’s sequel trilogy.

While it’s still uncertain if he’ll ever return to that role, his co-star Daisy Ridley is already confirmed to reprise Rey in a new film set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

If the powers that be decide to give Boyega a call, it’s safe to say audiences would love to see him bring his energy to the galaxy of Spaceballs. And with the sequel finally happening, the timing couldn’t be better.
