STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER Synopsis Teases Ryan Gosling’s Mysterious Mission That Could Reshape the Force
With The Mandalorian and Grogu gearing up to hit theaters, an new synopsis for Star Wars: Starfighter has surfaced online, teasing a high-stakes story centered on Ryan Gosling’s pilot and a mission that could shake the very foundation of the Force.
The newly posted description, which quietly appeared on IMDb, reads, "In a rebuilding galaxy, a solitary pilot becomes entangled in a crucial mission as new threats emerge. Their journey may alter the future of the Force itself."
It’s short and a bit vague, but that final idea about the future of the Force opens the door to something potentially game-changing.
The story centers on a lone pilot, played by Gosling, navigating a galaxy still picking up the pieces after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The timeline alone is interesting, since it pushes the saga into territory we haven’t really explored yet on screen.
The synopsis hasn’t shown up on the official Star Wars website, and its appearance comes just over a week after Star Wars Day 2026. Fans were already hoping for bigger announcements for this film during the May the 4th celebration, but it never came.
Before this, Lucasfilm had only described the film as "an all-new standalone adventure" set in a time period never explored in Star Wars. We also know the story takes place five years after The Rise of Skywalker, which puts it in a wide-open era for new characters and conflicts to take shape.
The film is directed by Shawn Levy, and the rest of the cast includes Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. There are also reports that Goth and Smith could be stepping into villain roles, which would make for a pretty compelling dynamic.
For now, the big picture is still mostly under wraps. But even a small tease like this adds a layer of intrigue, especially when it suggests the story might shake up something as fundamental as the Force itself.
Star Wars: Starfighter is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
