STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Showrunner Wants To Adapt KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC
Star Wars: The Acolyte offers us a look at a completely different era in the Star Wars universe as it is set over a hundred years before the events of the prequel trilogy.
This is an era that I’ve been interested in and curious about, but the first two episodes of the series didn’t quite deliver on the level of quality that I was hoping for. The series has been met with mixed reactions from critics and fans.
A lot of the critics don’t think that showrunner Leslye Headland is right for the franchise, she did a great job with the Russian Doll series, which I enjoyed, and I was hoping she’d do something great with Star Wars, but I’m not convinced she’s a right fit for the franchise.
Regardless, she wants to play in the Star Wars sandbox a little longer and recently shared that she wants to develop a live-action adaptation of the hit game franchise Knights of the Old Republic.
The stories for this are set almost 4,000 years prior to the introduction of Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. This is a story that Lucasfilm has flirted with in the past, but it’s something they have yet to pull the trigger on.
Headland recently expressed her interest in adapting Kreia's story from the franchise, saying: "I've always wanted to explore a live-action version of the Knights of the Old Republic game and Kreia's character. I think it would be a really interesting story to bring to life."
It certainly would be an interesting story to bring to life! Kreia, also known as Darth Traya, is a complex character from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords.
She is a former Jedi Master and later Sith Lord. Disillusioned with the Jedi Order and the Sith's dogma, Kreia seeks to challenge and ultimately dismantle the Force's influence over the galaxy.
Her motivations are driven by a belief that both the light and dark sides are flawed, perpetuating a cycle of conflict. Acting as a mentor to the protagonist, the Jedi Exile, she provides guidance and criticism, pushing the Exile to question their own beliefs and the nature of the Force itself.
Kreia's ultimate goal is to free the galaxy from the Force's manipulations.
If Headland does get the opportunity to tell this story there is a lot of source material to pull from to help guide her and her team. The blueprint is there with the games and all they have to do is match the level of quality of that storytelling.
What do you think about Headland possibly adapting the story of Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic?
