STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Star Teases What Was Planned for Darth Plagueis

As you know, Star Wars: The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland set up some story threads that could be explored in future seasons of the show. One of the most interesting elements was brief introduction of Darth Plagueis.

But, that’s a storyline that we’ll never get to see play out as DIsney canceled Lucasfilm’s The Acolyte after only one season, leaving fans to speculate what could’ve happened had the series continued.

During a panel at FanExpo San Francisco that took place this past weekend, Manny Jacinto was asked by a fan if he could share anything on a potential future season of The Acolyte, as well as how his character was connected to Darth Plagueis.

“Oh man, that's a tough question. They're not [connected], they're definitely not. Oh man, how do I answer that? What time is it? [laughs]

“There are definitely a lot of different theories, like who he is, because we never actually know his true identity. Is Qimir's name actually Qimir?

“We definitely wanted to explore it. There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show, but I just can't say, because, you know, we could come back.

“I don't want to spoil anything, or give anybody any false hope, but I would just say there was a lot more to explore, for sure.”

It’s surprising to learn that Darth Plagueis and Qimir aren’t connected, that makes the story arc for the villainous character that much more interesting.

Headland was previously asked how the story from The Acolyte to Plagueis training Palpatine connects, and she said:

"Yes, I do. If I continue to get to tell this story, I know how I would like that to play out. And I would say I think it’s pretty complicated and messy."

Headland also said: "Even though [Osha and The Stranger] are standing there, sort of looking out at the sunset, ready to conquer the world, the tragedy is we know they don’t. We know there can only be two."

"We know Plagueis is there. We know that these two are doomed in some way. So to me it’s a bittersweet tragedy, this foreboding ending. But that’s because I know about the Sith lineage and all these other things, whereas I think a different subset of the audience can be like, 'They’re married!'"

Maybe Darth Plagueis will be explored in a separate project at some point.
