It was inspired by his love of Star Wars and the 2004 Howard Hughes biopic The AviatorThe story is set in the present day, and it follows an "emotionally troubled recluse who discovers his Skywalker-like abilities when he single-handedly stops a meteor from killing his girlfriend."

When asked why he titled the movie the way he did, Lalonde said,

“It pretty much just came to me. I thought, hey, he’s awakening the force by stopping the giant meteor coming at him.”
