STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Rumors - Pirates and Info on Lupita Nyong’o's Character
Some more rumors have surfaced regarding Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The following news contain potential SPOILERS. It comes from Making Star Wars, who claim to know an awful lot about the movie. That have leaked a ton of news in the past, and they're back with some more. So let's get started.
First of all, lets start out with some pirates that seem to have a Mad Max look and feel to them and dwell in a place referred to as “Pirate’s Cove.” The site claims to have seen some concept art of six of these characters which may have been lifted from George Lucas' original Star Wars script which included what he called the "Legions of Lettow," which was the name of the entire Sith order. This group of people were Force-sensitive individuals who abandoned the teachings of the Jedi Order. The report says, "These guys look like they would drink your space rum and throw you out the airlock of your ship. They’re all pretty dirty and scruffy looking... They’re a dash Star Wars, a dash Mad Max, and pretty much rad all around." Here's one of the character descriptions they offered for the main pirate:
"There’s a main pirate that has many different designs. So we’ll just call him 'main pirate.' He looks like Robert Carlyle in a way, with a goatee and slightly long stringy hair. His under suit looks likes mummy wrappings, but they might be white foam, its hard to tell from the drawing. He has a chrome Stormtrooper’s bracers and gloves on his the gloves are fingerless. He has a blue coverall that goes over the wrappings, but just up to his chest. The groin area and stomach are exposed showing the wrappings. He has a belt on that is studded and a cup to project his important parts… it has a piece of cloth that drapes down from it. He has a red cape that is tattered and destroyed looking, more like a shawl in its frayed state. The cape is fastened to him with a rope he wears like a bandolier. He has a gun holster that appears to strap abound his leg, intersecting with his 'cup.' The design is very weird."

Some information is then offered up about "Pirates Cove," which used to be some kind of smugglers base. In The Force Awakens, though, it was taken over by rebels, and they turned it into their base. The site offers a ton of details about the this base that you can read here, but they sum it up by saying,
"Pirate’s Cove captures the classic vibe of the rebel locations we’ve seen A New Hope and mixes them with the complexities and real-world lived in look of Echo Base from The Empire Strikes Back. I do believe the only pirate there is Han Solo, his partner Chewbacca, and their pirate ship, The Falcon."
Now for some information regarding the character that is being played by Lupita Nyong'o. It all ties in with what has been discussed above. There is a room on Pirate Cove that is designated as “Rose’s Room,” and Star Wars Underworld has confirmed that Lupita Nyong’o’s character is codenamed Rose. They go on to describe the room as also having a separate set outside of Pirate’s Cove due to the set design.
"The set for Rose’s room required the room to be raised for puppetry requirements. It appears as if they need a channel in the floor for the puppeteer to move freely around, much like they did with Yoda’s house in The Empire Strikes Back.
Some other sources who are close to the project have also suggested that Nyong'o will be doing motion capture work on the movie. The report goes on to talk about a female puppet, saying,
"What’s interesting is the female puppet has a lot of of concepts [sic] art suggesting she’s important, and there are details regarding body articulation. However, the face is not articulated at all. It’s basically a puppet and you can put your hand up into the head to make its head move and its body has the standard work you imagine for a clothed creature. For some time we have heard the alien sidekick character would be a physical puppet with motion captured facial features. So it appears this little alien race is what Nyong'o is playing in the film.
"The ambiguity? There are two aliens. One is old and one is young. Both characters generally appear gender neutral in most of the concept art. The old character appears wise. One early iteration had the character crafting a crystal for (I presume) a lightsaber. The younger version appears to be related to that character and is younger and inquisitive. Just a wild guess, but it appears one is Lupita Nyong’o and one is Andy Serkis."
That would be cool! Apparently in early iterations of the film, John Boyega and Daisy Ridely’s characters enter some kind of cavern, and while there they meet a little waist high alien creature. That creature then takes the heroes to its elder, and after they meet, the little creature is with the heroes until the end of the film. Chances are Nyong'o is playing the younger one. You can read more about all of this here.
The final thing I'll bring up is from Star Wars Underworld, and it is one of the lines that Han will apparently say to Chewie. That line is:
"Chewie, we're back home!"
This sounds like it will be a very happy moment in the film for our characters. That's all I've got for you now, but stay tuned because more Star Wars: The Force Awakens news is sure to surface.
