STARNGER THINGS Season 5 Trailer Fuels Theories About Eddie Munson's Possible Return as Kas
Fans have never stopped hoping for Eddie Munson’s return, and the latest Stranger Things Season 5 teaser has reignited that fire. A new wave of theories suggests Eddie could make a comeback by becoming a dark version of himself, inspired by Dungeons & Dragons lore, and potentially serving as Vecna’s undead lieutenant in the battle for Hawkins.
The teaser wastes no time planting seeds. We see Dustin Henderson at Eddie’s grave, where someone has spray-painted “burn in hell” across the headstone, a brutal reminder that Hawkins still views Eddie as a villain. That shot got fan excited, especially when combined with other ominous details that seem to connect back to Eddie’s Season 4 fate.
Here’s where Dungeons & Dragons comes in. In D&D lore, Kas the Bloody-Handed is Vecna’s former right-hand man who eventually turns against him. Kas becomes a vampire after being attacked by bats, a detail that hits close to home for Eddie, who died heroically after a brutal Demobat attack in the Upside Down.
Eddie’s tattoos, a swarm of bats and a black widow spider, now seem like intentional breadcrumbs to where this is headed. Add in his epic “Master of Puppets” solo and spiked shield, and you have a character whose aesthetic already screams undead warrior.
Even the Season 5 premiere title, “The Crawl,” feels llike it has meaning. Fans point to the Master of Puppets lyric, “Come crawling faster, obey your master,” as a hint that Eddie could return as Vecna’s puppet before breaking free, echoing Kas’ ultimate betrayal of his master.
The teaser also throws in more visual clues as Max appears in hospital gear, teasing her survival and possible transformation, while the Upside Down walls are lined with egg sacs, hinting at Vecna assembling an army.
We also see a return to Hawkins Lab and the iconic Dungeons & Dragons map table, reminding us that these final episodes will lean heavily on the game’s mythology, which is exactly where the Kas theory lives.
The Duffer Brothers have previously said Eddie wasn’t coming back, but the imagery tells a different story. Between all of these things, some fans are convinced Eddie’s resurrection as Kas could play a major role in the show’s endgame.
Whether it’s true or not, one thing’s clear… Stranger Things knows how to keep its audience theorizing until the very end.
Would you want Eddie to return as Vecna’s dark lieutenant? Or should his hero’s death remain untouched?
