Steam Link Anywhere Lets You Play Your Steam Library on Your Phone as Long as You Have Internet
Valve has been working on their Steam Link app, and now you can play your Steam library from anywhere that you have an internet connection. Valve has updated Steam Link to now be named Steam Link Anywhere and it’s pretty cool.
It uses your main computer as a server and broadcasts the sound and video to whatever device you’re using. It’s really slick, and I played Bioshock 2 on my phone for about 2 seconds before I quit because I didn’t want to try playing the game with just the touchscreen.
I imagine this is what Project Stream from Google and xCloud from Microsoft are going to be like, and it makes me really excited. The main catch is that the Steam Link Anywhere app is only available for Android, Raspberry Pi, and Steam Link devices as Apple won’t let Valve launch the app on iOS.
Also, it is very important to note that the service is still in Beta, so expect some problems. With Valve and Microsoft showing off more of their cloud gaming services, I’m positive Google is going to show off at GDC next week, and I would be willing to bet both Microsoft and Valve will be talking more about their platforms in detail.
