Stephanie Meyer Announces Fifth Book in Twilight Series Over a Decade Later with MIDNIGHT SUN
Back in 2005, an unknown author by the name of Stephanie Meyer came on the seen with a new book entitled Twilight. The fanbase for the novel, comprising teen girls and women alike, blew up, and they eagerly ate up each addition to the series that came out a year apart for the next three years. The four book series was turned into a profitable five movie deal, and fans were rabidly dedicated.
The books followed the story of Bella Swan, an awkward, introverted teen girl who has relocated to the town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. Once settling in, she meets Edward Cullen, a beautiful boy who she feels incredibly drawn to, but feels he holds a secret she can’t understand. He, of course, turns out to be a vampire, and his family of vampires lives in the town, trying to stay low-key and peaceful so they don’t have to reinvent themselves too soon.
The story goes on in the other books to detail the push and pull of a tumultuous teen romance that is only made more complicated when vampires are involved. It has some great battles, a love story, and some weird wolf love-triangle stuff. And fans loved every minute.
But the story isn’t over! Stephanie Meyer announced today that she is writing the long-talked-about fifth book in her series, entitled Midnight Sun. This book will be the story we know, but from Edward Cullen’s perspective, including more of his backstory.
Here’s the press release from the author:
“I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal,” Ms. Meyer said in a statement. “However, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited.”
“I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while.”
While this isn’t exciting for all of our readers, it is for some. The story definitely drew people in, and I know that getting people excited about reading is a good thing under any circumstances.
Midnight Sun will hit bookshelves on August 4th. Are you into it?
