Stephen and Robbie Amell's CODE 8 Sci-Fi Film Project Is Getting a Spinoff Series
This week, Stephen and Robbie Amell’s indie sci-fi film project Code 8 is being released. There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding this film, and a lot of fans are excited about seeing it. It actually looks like it’ll be a solid flick! You can check out the trailer for it here.
We’ve now learned that there’s also a spinoff series in development for the upcoming streaming service Quibi. The film’s director Jeff Chan will helm the new series, which he’ll also write with the film’s scribe Chris Paré. This is the synopsis for the crowdfunded film:
Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but rather than be billionaires or superheroes, most "specials" face discrimination, live in poverty and often resort to crime.
That leaves Connor Reed, played by The Flash star Robbie Amell, as a powerful young man struggling to pay for his ailing mother's medical treatment. To earn money, he joins a criminal world led by Garrett, played by Arrow star Stephen Amell.
The series will take place years after the events of the movie, “centering around an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and telekinetic drug dealer (Stephen Amell) who are forced to work together to bring down a dangerous trafficking ring run by corrupt cops and the city’s elite.”
This project has come a long way since the crowdfunding campaign was launched in 2016 in which they raised $2.4 million to make the movie. It’s pretty cool to see this property find the success that it has.
