Stephen Andrade’s CREEPSHOW Poster Brings Romero and King’s Horror Classic Back to Its Comic Book Roots

Artist Stephen Andrade has created a killer new poster for Creepshow for Hero Complex Gallery, and the artwork perfectly captures the pulpy EC Comics spirit that made the movie so much fun.

The retro illustration is called “Five Jolting Tales of Terror!” and it puts the Creep front and center while packing in imagery from the film’s wonderfully twisted stories, complete with distressed colors, vintage typography, and the tagline, “The most fun you’ll ever have being scared!”

The poster measures 24x36 inches, with a Regular Edition limited to 175 prints priced at $80 and a Metallic Edition limited to just 85 prints for $135. If you’re a Creepshow fan, this is a pretty awesome piece of art to hang on the wall.

Directed by horror legend George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, Creepshow was released in 1982 as a loving, blood-soaked tribute to the EC horror comics of the 1950s.

The anthology delivers five stories including “Father’s Day,” “The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill,” “Something to Tide You Over,” “The Crate,” and “They’re Creeping Up on You!”, with a cast that includes Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, E.G. Marshall, and King himself.

What makes the movie such an enduring classic is the way Romero translates comic-book storytelling directly to the screen, mixing outrageous colors, panel-like compositions, gruesome practical effects, monsters, revenge stories, pitch-black humor, and wonderfully nasty comeuppance.

It never takes itself too seriously, yet it still delivers some great creepy imagery, and more than four decades later it remains one of the great horror anthology movies.

Andrade’s poster taps right into that personality, making it a fitting celebration of Romero and King’s macabre playground.
