Stephen Hillenburg, The Creator of SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, Has Passed Away

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of Nickelodeon’s classic comedy cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants, has passed away. Apparently he died on Monday from his battle with ALS. He was only 57-years-old.

Nickelodeon released the following statement:

"We are incredibly saddened by the news that Steve Hillenburg has passed away following a battle with ALS. He was a beloved friend and long-time creative partner to everyone at Nickelodeon, and our hearts go out to his entire family. Steve imbued 'SpongeBob SquarePants' with a unique sense of humor and innocence that has brought joy to generations of kids and families everywhere. His utterly original characters and the world of Bikini Bottom will long stand as a reminder of the value of optimism, friendship and the limitless power of imagination."

This is sad news. The guy certainly had a wildly imaginative and funny sense of humor and he’s brought a lot of joy and laughter to me and my own kids as we’ve watched SpongeBob over the years.

Hillenburg has left quite a legacy behind with SpongeBob and the fans will continue to enjoy and laugh at his creations for years to come.
