Stephen King Reveals The Horror Movie That He Was Too Scared To Finish
Stephen King is the Master of Horror, and after all the horror stories he’s written in his career, you’d think that there isn’t a horror film that’s been made that would scare him. Well, it turns out there is one movie that he started watching that he was too scared to finish. That movie is The Blair Witch Project.
While being interviewed by Eli Roth on Shudder, King said:
“The first time I saw [The Blair Witch Project], I was in the hospital and I was doped up. My son brought a VHS tape of it and he said, ‘You gotta watch this.’ Halfway through it I said, ‘Turn it off it’s too freaky.’“
King previously shared his love for The Blair Witch Project in a 2010 reissue of his non-fiction book Danse Macabre. Here he explains why the film was so scary for him:
"One thing about Blair Witch: the damn thing looks real. Another thing about Blair Witch: the damn thing feels real. And because it does, it’s like the worst nightmare you ever had, the one you woke from gasping and crying with relief because you thought you were buried alive and it turned out the cat jumped up on your bed and went to sleep on your chest."
I remember first seeing The Blair Witch Project when it was released in theaters. The film gave me the chills and, yeah… it scared the hell out of me!
The found-footage film tells the story of three film students (Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, Michael C. Williams) who travel to a small town to collect documentary footage about a legendary local murderer. Over the course of several days, the students interview townspeople and gather clues to support the tale’s veracity. But the project takes a frightening turn when the students lose their way in the woods and begin hearing horrific noises.
Do you remember the first time you watched The Blair Witch Project? Did it scare you?
