Stephen King Shares the First Movie Poster For THE DARK TOWER

Stephen King has released the first poster for the upcoming feature film adaptation of The Dark Tower. I've been waiting for this film for years and I'm happy and excited that we are finally getting a movie! I hope it ends up being great and I hope that the filmmakers involved get to realize their full vision for the film adaptation, which will include a total of three films and two TV series. I imagine it all hinges on if this first film does well or not.

The poster came with the following caption from King, "Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure." I love the poster design as it features the image of the tower in the upside down New York City, which isn't really New York City. If you're familiar with the books, you know this is Lud, which is a post-apocalyptic city in Mid-World that is similar to NYC. You have Roland and Jake at the bottom of the poster and you've got the Man in Black walking upside down on the top.

We've already seen a few photos from the film featuring Idris Elba as The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black. There was even a trailer that leaked online but was never officially released. I loved what I saw in the trailer, and I imagine we will see an officially released trailer soon.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum.  It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) and has a supporting cast that includes Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Tirana; Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg; Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen); Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Claudia Kiim (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The Dark Tower hits theaters this summer on July 28. To catch up on all of our Dark Tower news, click here.
