Stephen King Wants THE DARK TOWER Sequel To Be Rated R
After years of waiting, The Dark Tower finally made it to the big screen and... a lot of people think it was a disaster. The movie was met with terrible reviews, fans didn't care for it, and this means it will probably tank at the box office. SO far it's only made $27.5 million.
Regardless of that, the TV series still seems to be moving forward as it has a showrunner now and Stephen King is talking about a sequel. And if it does, he wants that sequel to be rated R. While talking to several media outlets, King was asked if there was anything that wasn’t in director Nikolaj Arcel‘s movie that he wished had made the cut, and this was his response:
“I would love to see Roland on the beach with those lobster monstrosities and I understand the rationale behind [this] movie, that it’s PG-13. I totally signed off on that. I think it’s the right thing to do. I want as many people as possible to attend for all kinds of reasons…but I would love to see the next picture be R. Because I think that’s sort of where we’re coming from now, where the movies need to go.”
Of course, King acknowledges that the sequel happening depends on the success of the first film. It's hard to believe that Warner Bros. will want to move forward with the sequel if the movie completely bombs at the box office but it's too early to tell. I actually thought the movie was fine! I enjoyed it. But, regardless of how most critics feel about, I do hope that the studio will press forward with the TV series and film sequels. I want to believe that the films can get better!
I'd also be down for a more hardcore R-rated movie set in the world of The Dark Tower. That would take away certain restrictions and give the filmamkers more freedom to do what they want with the story.
