Stephen King's CHILDREN OF THE CORN Is Getting a New Film Adaptation From EQUILIBRIUM Director Kurt Wimmer
It looks like we’re getting a new feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn. THR recently pointed out that Equilibrium director Kurt Wimmer was actually in the middle of shooting the film in Sydney before production was shut down.
The film is based on a short story written by King, and the story follows Burt and Vicky, who are traveling through Nebraska on their way to California on a vacation meant to save their failing marriage. “After being involved in an accident in which they run over a young boy who ran into the road, they take the body to Gaitlin, a small isolated community nearby. The story centers on their encounters with the strange citizens of Gaitlin and the entity they call 'He Who Walks Behind the Rows.'”
Those citizens are mostly creepy children who rose up against their parents and other adults in the small town and murdered them. It’s a great film to watch with the kids!
As most of you know, this isn’t the first time the story has been adapted for the big screen. There was a film released in 1984, which has become a cult classic. While it’s not considered to be the most successful film, it did spawn nine sequels, the last of which was 2018’s Children of the Corn: Runaway.
I’m not surprised the movie is getting remade, reports started to surface regarding the remake back in 2009. But, with King’s popularity exploding right now, everyone wants in on the action.
What do you think about Children of the Corn being remade?
